Video Poker is a popular game that is able to be bet on in casinos all over the world, or in your house on your home computer, using an Internet account. The game rules are very simple and consist of the player trying to get the greatest combination of cards as you can in order to come away with money. On this account it’s much the same as a normal game of poker, apart from the interaction with any other players. Of course, tactics used in a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant here.
The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the machine and presses the draw button. A hand of 5 cards will then be electronically ‘handed out’ on the video screen.
The Electronic Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and bettors should now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the enthusiast wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.
After the player has selected which cards he or she wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be given out. The game is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.
Normally, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payout schedule can change from machine to machine, so that discerning bettors are able to select the most money-making ones each and every instance.
As soon as the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to continue on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Further, some styles of the game allow the player a chance to double their wins, in which case a further round is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying elements to increase playability.
