The History of Electronic Poker

[ English ]

Electronic Poker is merely a blend of 2 popular forms of betting: the video slot using the poker game. Winning a game of Electronic-Poker requires a combination of bettor skill with good luck, making it a favorite with players. The game of poker is believed to have originated back in 1830, where it’s recorded as having been played by French expatriates residing in New Orleans. Electronic-Poker uses a variation of the game referred to as five-card draw poker. At the same time, the coin-operated card machine (referred affectionately as a "slot machine") was originally invented in the late 19th century, with poker machines showing up in San Francisco in Eighteen Ninety. These machines were quite simple by today’s specifications, using real cards rather than symbols.

The machines declined in acceptance throughout the initial half of the 1900’s. Economic difficulties mixed with the limited technology of the machines themselves meant that people just weren’t interested in playing anymore. A incredibly primitive electronic poker machine was released in 1964 but achieved only reasonable success.

It wasn’t until the mid-1970s that the Electronic-Poker equipment as we know it today grew to become obtainable. Breakthroughs in technology meant that a computer chip (CPU) could be installed inside the machines to give them a "brain", whilst a monitor showed the action to the gambler.

Meanwhile, casino operators searched for new high-profit games, and also the combination of a slot machine games with the much more traditional game of five-card draw poker proved to be a winning blend from the old and new. The 1st Electronic-Poker equipment was built in 1976 by Bally Manufacturing. It was black and white only, but a color version followed just 8 months later, released by the Fortune Coin Organization. Over the next few years, computer chips grew to become cheaper to produce, and much more gambling houses introduced Electronic Poker machines as they became a lot more financially viable. A version referred to as Draw Poker was launched in ‘79 by a business now called IGT, and it achieved amazing success.

Video-Poker genuinely took off inside the early 1980s where it grew to become famous in gambling establishments across Sin City. Players discovered themselves far less intimidated by a device than they were when seated at a table in front of others. The popularity of the game has gradually increased over the last 25 years and it can now be discovered in the majority of gambling establishments around the world, along with bars and on the Net.
